Big Green Pig

The Whiffle Pig allotment opened on Monday 1st July 2019 as part of The Big Green Pig Project with support from Professor Stefan Buczacki.

It is a fully accessible outdoor gardening space designed to accommodate wheelchair users and support local community groups at risk of social isolation.

The project supports service users to grow their own food, connect with nature, and enjoy learning and growing with others. There have been a number of developments since it’s launch designed to improve accessibility and comfort for visitors, including a wheelchair accessible composting toilet and raised bed with multiple access levels to encourage inclusive gardening.

The health benefits gained from working on the allotment are complemented by the Whiffle Pig Cookbook which is a vital part of the allotment experience, guiding crop choice and plot planning with easy, healthy recipe recommendations designed to enable all our allotmenteers get the most out of their plot to plate adventure!
